Browning Montana Post Office

September 23, 2012 By David W. Gates Jr.

ADDRESS: 316 N. Piegan St., Browning, Montana 59417

Browning was one of the last post offices I visited during my two-day road trip. It was getting late and I was really exhausted by the time I got here. I was sad that lobby was locked. I wasn’t unable to check if there was a dedication plaque.  I did however, look through the windows and saw a painting on the wall.

Although I don’t think this is a WPA era painting or mural it was still a neat piece of artwork. I tried to take pictures through the windows but the reflections made this really difficult.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Deer Lodge Montana Post Office

September 22, 2012 By David W. Gates Jr.

Deer Lodge MT Post Office 59722
Deer Lodge MT Post Office 59722

ADDRESS: 510 Main St., Deer Lodge, Montana, 59722
TITLE: James and Granville Stuart Prospecting in Deer Lodge Valley – 1858
ARTIST: Verona Burkhard
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The mural resides in the lobby above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

You’re really going to like this one. I mean just looking at the exterior of this building I knew it was going to be a gem the first time I saw the building. I was not disappointed when I finally got a closer look at this Post Office.

Just off to the right of the steps is an interpretative plaque describing a little history of the Deer Lodge Post Office. Once you enter the building you are immediately drawn to the amazing and beautiful mural above the Postmaster’s door. When I think of Montana this is the scene that first comes to mind. So needless to say I was very happy to see it. As for Montana Post office murals there are only a few so you can imagine my delight to have been able to visit this one and share it with you. The only drawback was the newer USPS sign in front of this classic 30’s style building.

What do you know about this one? Did you help research this building? Where you the one’s responsible for the plaque out front? Please share your comments below. I’d really like to read them.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Boulder Montana Post Office

September 21, 2012 By David W. Gates Jr.

Boulder MT Post Office 59632
Boulder MT Post Office 59632

ADDRESS: 126 S. Main St., Boulder, Montana 59632

Boulder was another post office visit during my two-day Montana Post Office Tour. I’m really wondering what happened to this one. When I visited the building was closed due to some sort of accident. There were signs posted that it was closed until further notice.

Now that I’m home from this tour I’ve had the chance to dig around and this is what I found. Apparently a car accident with the building. Huh!

Luckily for the residents of Boulder they can now enjoy doing their business out of a truck parked at the back of the building. How’s that for customer service. Yes, we are open you just need to go to the back of the building where the truck is parked. Someone working out the truck would be happy to assist you. Thanks for your business.

And you though visiting post office was boring? Huh!!

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.
