Cary Illinois Post Office

February 10, 2012 By David W. Gates Jr.

Cary IL PO 60013
Cary IL Post Office 60013

ADDRESS: 2707 3 Oaks Rd., Cary, Illinois 60013

My Sunday excitement was driving to the Cary, IL Post Office. Recently, while trying to avoid construction traffic I was diverted down 3 Oaks Road. Not even realizing it, I drove past the Cary, IL Post Office. Since I didn’t have my camera on me at the time, I didn’t stop.

Today I decided to re-visit this post office to take pictures of it. I was pleasantly surprised and found the Cary, IL Post Office to be a great visit. The building itself is quite unique. Upon entering the lobby and finding the dedication plaque, I noticed it was dedicated in 1992. The first thought that came to my mind was cool. It was dedicated the same year I graduated high school. I find it strange that’s the first thing that came to my mind and yes, I’m dating myself as well.

Further investigation reveled the bulletin board has historical pictures of past Cary Post Offices. I was glad to see these and highlight them below, “Picture of Pictures” gotta love it. Since they were behind glass it was difficult to get clear photos, the glass reflected the light and produced a glare on each photo.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Fox River Grove Illinois Post Office

Fox River Grove IL Post Office 60021

ADDRESS: 938 IL Route 22, Fox River Grove, Illinois 60021

One post office visit was not enough today. I also drove to the Fox River Grove location. I actually drive by this one on my way to work. I had originally though this was a branch or substation, but apparently this is the official Fox River Grove, Illinois Post Office.

It’s located in a shopping center along with other shops. I really prefer the stand alone unique buildings. I was slightly delighted by the cannon relic just outside the front entrance. Seems this cannon shaped monument is dedicated to all who have served our country. The bulletin board inside the Fox River Grove Post Office has a list of all the past postmaster’s.

Thank you,

David W. Gates Jr.

Stockton Illinois Post Office

February 8, 2012 By David W. Gates Jr.

Stockton IL PO 61085
Stockton IL Post Office 61085

ADDRESS: 201 W. Railroad Ave., Stockton, Illinois 61085

The Stockton post office is another one we visited during our road trip to Galena, IL. Stockton is a perfect example of the contrast between new and old post offices buildings. This one is relatively newer building and one of my least favorite style building. I get that progress and growth are natural occurrences, but I prefer the older buildings.

Once again we were in the car driving along route 20 and headed home from the Galena Post Office. What is funny is that the town of Stockton has a nice main street with older buildings. Whenever I’m in an older town surrounded by older buildings I get excited thinking the post office is going to be another old gem.

Not the case in Stockton, IL. The post office was dedicated in 1998 while William Clinton was president and Marvin Runyon was postmaster general.

It’s kinda funny once you start visiting lots of post offices you can spot the unique ones and when you see a newer one it’s almost like you get disappointed. I remember my girlfriend’s reaction when we spotted the newer building. We both just let out a sigh, relieved we found it, but disappointed it was a newer building. I’m grateful to have visited.

As I compile this post I also realized I forgot to take a photo of the building itself. Since we were kinda in a hurry driving through town we ended up just talking one with me in the front. Funny how that happens.
