Decatur Illinois Post Office Memorial Station

ADDRESS: 1601 E Mound Rd., Decatur, Illinois 62526

Bonus Day! I found this one from 2102.

So I’ve been working on my collection of photographs from Illinois. I had this one tucked away and never posted it. My initial list was from February 7, 2012.

Good thing I’ve had time to do some file maintenance. Nice little surprises.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

White Hall Illinois Post Office

October 10, 2015 By David W. Gates Jr.

White Hall IL Post Office 62092
White Hall IL Post Office 62092

ADDRESS: 120 South Jacksonville Street, White Hall, Illinois, 62092
ARTIST: Felix Oscar Schlag
TITLE: Potter and His Burro
MEDIUM: Plaster (relief)
STATUS: The White Hall post office is still an active, operating facility, and the relief can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

During my May 2015 road trip I ran across several buildings during non-business hours. So I had to settle for just the exterior of the buildings for my photographs. Disappointing yes, but then I’ll be back to complete my full documentation including images of the art inside the building.

Until I can get around to that, please enjoy the exterior photos and National Register of Historical Places plaque near the entrance of the White Hall Illinois post office building.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

UPDATE 10/25/2020

I finally made it to White Hall, Illinois to view the artwork inside the building. On Saturday October 24, 2020, I woke up at 2:00am and drove the 5 hours to visit this building. It appears the retail counter is only open for two hours on Saturday and the entire lobby is closed on Sunday’s which is when I visited in 2015. I’ve add the images of the plaster cast artwork. Enjoy!

Beardstown Illinois Post Office

October 3, 2015 By David W. Gates Jr.

Beardstown IL Post Office 62618
Beardstown IL Post Office 62618

ADDRESS: 101 E. Main St., Beardstown, Illinois 62618

My April 2015 road trip was quite wet. Beardstown was a fun stop or maybe just comical. It was raining really hard, so I sat in my car across the street and waited for it to clear up.

Well the rain eventually did start to slow down, so I jumped out and positioned myself to take my picture. Sure enough a car pulls up and obstructs my photo opportunity.Well this wasn’t the first time, this happened several times while I was visiting. Once when I first arrived another time after I went inside and came back out and then again when I went back to my car.

I eventually settled with the images you see below. Since I was sort of on a scheduled to get several more this day I forced myself to push on.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.
