As I was looking for the Glenview, IL post office I discovered this one. What I find interesting is that I’ve been around this area for a number of years and just now discovered this village existed.

Perfect, I said to myself as I quickly took a few pictures.  I was on my way to work and wanted to get a few pictures before my shift. This post office is attached to another Golf community building. It appears like they are older buildings which I find interesting.

The dedication plaque at the Golf Post Office is dated 1959. Dwight D. Eisenhower was president of the United States, Arthur E Summerfiled was postmaster general. This is the first post office I’ve come across that list Deputy postmaster general and assistant postmaster general. Here is what’s listed on the plaque.

Deputy postmaster general, Edson O. Sessions, Assistant postmaster generals, John McKibbin, E. George Siedle, Hyde Gillette, Rollin D. Bernard and Eugene J. Lyons.

Wow! It feels strange to be writing 2012. Happy new Year Folks. Today I visited the Lake Zurich IL Post Office. Most business were closed for the holiday including the Lake Zurich, Illinois Post Office. However, I was still hoping to get a few visits today.

Lake Zurich was my first stop. It’s a newer building with no dedication plaque in the lobby. It’s a rather large building with unique points on the front fascia of the building. The signage is the newer USPS. There is a blue plaque like sign on the front of the building indicating the city.

Newer buildings such as this are fine and serve their purpose. However, I’m after the older more unique ones. On to my next visit for the day. What will it bring?

I wasn’t planning on stopping at this one today however, it was still light out so I thought to myself, this would be a great opportunity to photograph the exterior of the building.

This one is located in a shopping center. These happen to be my least favorite of all post office locations. One reason I take pictures of post offices is I enjoy the actual historical significance of some of the smaller stand alone buildings. Most locations in strip malls lack the character or historical significance of most stand alone buildings.

We stopped and took several pictures.
