Paris Arkansas Post Office

December 3, 2018 By David W. Gates Jr.

Paris AR Post Office 72855
Paris AR Post Office 72855

ADDRESS: 206 N. Elm, Paris, Arkansas, 72855
ARTIST: Joseph P. Vorst
TITLE: Rural Arkansas
MEIDUM: Mural
STATUS: The mural resides in the lobby above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940

Hard to believe it was back in April of this year that I visited this one. I’m just getting around to posting the images now in December. I’ve been crazy busy working on the books, and just dealing with life.

Anyway, I have a few more Arkansas buildings I’ll be posting over the next few weeks. Time to get back into focusing on the blog.

I had a wonderful visit to Paris and distinctly remember the clerk introducing me to Post masters: Arkansas post office art in the new deal published about the post offices in Arkansas. I’ll include this in the sources section below. And now for the images. So far I’ve been unable to find this one, but I’ll keep looking.

Nashville Arkansas Post Office

September 7, 2018 By David W. Gates Jr.

Nashville AR Post Office 71852
Nashville AR Post Office 71852

ADDRESS: 220 N Main St., Nashville, Arkansas, 71852
ARTIST: John T. Robertson
TITLE: Peach Growing
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The mural resides in the lobby above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

Is it just me or does the guy in this mural remind you of Freddy Krueger? That was the first thing that came to my mind as I was viewing this mural.

Nashville, was another post office visit during a family vacation back in April of this year. It was raining but, we headed over to the post office anyway. I think we got there right before they closed. Raining wet days are my leas favorite times for photographing these buildings, but since I’m in Arkansas miles away from home, I’ll take what I can get.

The mural is in the retail section of the lobby, which has been enclosed with glass as you can see in the lobby images.

Another challenging corner stone image. Sometimes I wish I had a chain saw to cut the bushes just to get a good photograph of the corner stone. But since I don’t and that would probably be frowned upon, I’ll stick with the angled shot.

Enjoy!

Former Heber Springs Arkansas Post Office

Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543
Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543

ADDRESS: 102 E Main St., Heber Springs, Arkansas, 72543
ARTIST: H. Louis Freund
TITLE: From Tiber to Agriculture
MEDIUM: Mural
STATUS: No longer a post office, this building is the local historical center. The mural resides in what was the original lobby above the former postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

I had a wonderful time visiting and photographing this one. It was a weekday and I was initially the only visitor so the volunteers had ample time to share their impressive collection in their small museum.

You name escapes me now that it’s 3 months later. But I really enjoyed our conversation and you showing me around. Bonus that we also took a visit to the basement of this old building.

Sort of a behind the scene. I love these old buildings and jump at any chance that someone is able to share it with me.
