STATUS: The Rockford post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. The mural resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940
I can’t begin to tell you how long I spent waiting for a perfect photo of the front of this building. Surely this post office is not always this busy I kept saying to myself as I stood across the street waiting, and waiting and waiting. I’m glad I waited and I’m satisfied with the photos I did get.
As I was standing there I was also contemplating why I needed all the cars and people to out of the pictures. As you can see there are two very large tress that obstructs the front of the building anyway. But I waited and that some times that’s just how it goes.
My wife and son were so bored they went for a walk around the downtown area and found a nice park across the river.
I’m intrigued with the different style of this mural. I noticed the sharp angles and boxy like look to it. At least that is what sticks out in my mind when I view it.
