Happy Birthday Post Office Fans

When I launched www.postofficefans.com two years ago my goal was to highlight one post office everyday for a year. Well, it turns out I was able to blow out this goal and make it two full years. Yesterday marked our two-year anniversary bringing you a variety of post offices from across the country. The variety of buildings, artwork, and artifacts we have discovered has been a really eye opener. The people I’ve met and the stories they have shared, has made this an amazing two years.

At the time I had no idea how interesting and addictive photographing post offices was going to be.  When we took those first pictures, all we were looking to do was remember the name of the small towns we had driven through on our vacation.  As it turns out Post Offices often times have the name of the town on the building. My thinking at the time was  “What a great way to remember what town you visited”. So that was the start of it all. Take a picture in front of the post office of each town you drove through. In those early years it became part of our vacations. Not only did we hike, camp or sight see, but always in the back of my mind I wanted a picture of the places I had traveled too. The local Post Office presented a perfect way to remember the name of the town. What started as a vacation idea has blossomed into this great site for all of you to enjoy! I can’t thank you all enough for the comments, suggestions and additional insight to the Post Offices we have already featured.

What’s ahead for the future  you may be asking? Well, for starters I’m going to take some time off posting one each day. My personal life has required more attention, so rather than a post office each day, you may see a one post office each week or month. I’m also in the process of cleaning up and researching some of the more interesting post offices I’ve highlighted in the past. I’ve learned a ton about the postal service and buildings I’ve visited the past two years. I’d like to take the time to digest what I have learned already. To sum it up, its time to slow it down a bit and reflect on what the last two years have taught me. Improve the back-end of the site and plan for the future.

The following gallery is a highlight of some of the more memorable visits.
