When I stop to think about what made me start photographing post offices the La Grande Washington Post Office is a perfect example. One look at the building and I immediately started thinking to myself. “This building has character.” Then my mind starts to wonder what life may have been like back when it first opened or who must have passed through La Grande Washington back in the day.

From the hand painted sign on the building to the old-fashioned interior of building this is what it’s all about. All I can say is wow! how cool is that?

Eatonville Washington Post Office

As I was driving around Washington I was trying to find some interesting post offices. I found a few and when I stopped here in Eatonville, I just thought I was stopping into “just another” post office.

Little to my surprise the lobby has some great photographs of Mt. Rainier. Since Eatonville is clearly in the shadows of this massive mountain I thought this was very fitting.

Seattle Washington (Midtown) Post Office

Ah! downtown Seattle, what a place. It is funny but I didn’t want my “vacation/sabbatical” to end. I found visiting Seattle a great way to procrastinate before heading back to the midwest.  It only made sense after all I was already in the area.

I enjoyed the tourist activities, such as Pike’s Market, the original Starbucks and the famous Seattle Underground tour. Of course I also had to get a few post office visits in there too.  Seattle was definitely a great place to top off the completion of my 2010 PCT hike. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
