Today’s featured post office is Bruceton Tennessee. Great setting and nice landscaping, looks like its well cared for. So here is one instance where I must have visited after hours. The doors were locked so I was not able to get inside the lobby. But through the window I could see the dedication plaque on the wall. I had to hold the camera up to the window and zoom in to get this one. I think it turned out alright. It begs to ask the question though. Why on earth are the lobby’s closed? This puzzles me and can’t seem to figure out why some post office choose to close the lobby and others remain open.

Do you know why? Is this the postmasters decision? Is it for security reasons?

Hollow Rock Tennessee Post Office

Today’s featured post office is Hollow Rock Tennessee. I felt a bit sorry for the new employee here. It wasn’t busy at all, I kindly walked up and asked if I could photograph the building and of course because this guy was new he didn’t know. He told me he would have to make a phone call and check with. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I already knew the answer. Young and nervous at a new job, I remember those days.

Of course once he was off the phone I proceed to get my photographs. No need to be pushy or arrogant, it wasn’t busy so I waited.

Dresden Tennessee Post Office

TITLE: Retrospection
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Dresden post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940

I love this mural. The colors are alive and brilliant. There is so much going on in this mural that makes it a unique piece. To be honest I don’t have an Art background. This makes it difficult for me to describe in art terminology the various aspects or features of this painting. I love the colors. I love the size of the mural. Maybe if there is an art history major out there that would like to comment, that would be interesting.

The point is you don’t need to be an art history major to enjoy or appreciate this wonderful murals.
