Missouri Post Offices

Former Annada Missouri Post Office

January 20, 2013 By David W. Gates Jr.

Former Annada MO Post Office
Former Annada MO Post Office

ADDRESS: 306 Route 79, Annada, Missouri 63330

I almost drove right past this one and had to do a double take. We actually turned the car around because I thought it looked a lot like a post office.  I really didn’t know until we took a closer look. Sad to see that it was closed but with a population of only 29 in 2010, I can’t say I blame the USPS for closing it.

Does anyone out there know when it opened? Or when it closed. I didn’t see much else to this town that would even look to like a historical society or any other major services.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

ADDRESS: 4401 S. Main St., Vandalia, Missouri, 63382
TITLE: Corn Harvest
ARTIST: Joseph P. Vorst
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Vandalia post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. The mural resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

The Vandalia post office also has wonderful limestone sculptures of a plane, train and ship on the front facade of the building. What is your story of the Vandalia Missouri Post Office? What can you tell me about the artists or subject?

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Old Monrore Missouri Post Office

January 18, 2013 By David W. Gates Jr.

Old Monroe MO Post Office 63369
Old Monroe MO Post Office 63369

ADDRESS: 104 Sycamore St., Old Monroe, Missouri 63369

I felt out-of-place when I visited Old Monroe. It just seem liked one of those small industrial towns where not much was going on. I was happy to get this photo and glad I visited. I like the way the flag just sort of hangs out from the building. If you don’t have a flag pole you improvise. Excellent I said to myself as I stood outside admiring this small town building.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.
