Every now and then I’ll come across a really interesting building that has history and charm. This was the case during my visit to the former Toledo Ohio Central Post Office. As I was driving around my girlfriend was working the browser on the phone and digging up some good details on this building. No sense in repeating what has already been written. This building was added to the National Historic of Places Registry. But you get all the pictures here at Post Office Freak.

What a beauty, check out the patina on those light fixtures? I have to say you have a national treasure here. Well maybe not, but one mans garbage is another mans treasure could apply here. I mean the post office did outgrown this building but it appears another business moved in. It’s nice to see the building still standing. Although it is among much larger buildings and parking structures, at least it’s still there.

STATUS:  The mural no longer resides in the original building shown here it has since been moved to the new post office building located on Dotty Street. The mural is in the main lobby.
YEAR: 1938

This one is a good story. I was driving around searching for post offices. When I entered Kaukauna I immediately found the newer post office. However, my research lead me to believe it was an older post office with a mural. So naturally when I arrived at the newer building I was a bit disappointed. I’ll highlight the newer building tomorrow, but today’s featured post office is the original or former Kaukauna Wisconsin Post Office.

Thanks to the employees at the local McDonald’s who gave me directions.

It appears this building has made it onto the Register of Historic Places and will be preserved. According to this Wikipedia Article.

Come back tomorrow to view the newer Kaukauna Post Office and the mural that once resided in this classic WPA era building. Move to the new building in 1988
