Winchester TN Roger1
Winchester TN Roger1

ADDRESS: 7 S. High Street, Winchester, Tennessee, 37398

Built 1914

“Between the 1850s and 1911, a livery stable and stone works occupied the north ed of this site, with the John Custer family home on the south corner. The present building was constructed for the US Post Office and various government offices, after the city of Winchester purchased the building in 1967, and a new city fire hall and police department was constructed at the rear in 1969, Winchester City Hall moved here in 1970”.

Best regards, Roger

Former Zanesville OH Post Office 43701 Roger

ADDRESS:  is 65 S. Fifth Street, Zanesville, OH

David,

Again, another non-New Deal post office building, but very cool indeed. Built in 1904 it also housed the Federal Building. Architect is George Hammond; architectural style is Beaux Arts. Added to National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The Zanesville PO I photographed appears vacant.

Best regards, Roger,

Former Heber Springs Arkansas Post Office

August 24, 2018 By David W. Gates Jr.

Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543
Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543

ADDRESS: 102 E Main St., Heber Springs, Arkansas, 72543
ARTIST: H. Louis Freund
TITLE: From Tiber to Agriculture
MEDIUM: Mural
STATUS: No longer a post office, this building is the local historical center. The mural resides in what was the original lobby above the former postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

I had a wonderful time visiting and photographing this one. It was a weekday and I was initially the only visitor so the volunteers had ample time to share their impressive collection in their small museum.

You name escapes me now that it’s 3 months later. But I really enjoyed our conversation and you showing me around. Bonus that we also took a visit to the basement of this old building.

Sort of a behind the scene. I love these old buildings and jump at any chance that someone is able to share it with me.
