North Carolina post offices (A-L group) from my recent trip, September of 2022; a few were taken in 2016 (Asheboro, Cedar Falls, Franklinville) which I somehow hadn’t posted. Asheboro—old PO built 1934.

Waverly Ohio Post Office

November 19, 2022 By David W. Gates Jr.

Waverly OH Post Office 45690
Waverly OH Post Office 45690

ADDRESS: 125 East 2nd Street, Waverly, Ohio 45690
ARTIST: Roy Best
TITLE: Arrival of the Packet
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (Mural)
STATUS: The Waverly post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940

While I was outside taking photos of this building, there were a few news reporters setup outside the court house across the street. When I asked one of the bystanders, they mentioned a court case was in session.

When I returned home to look it up, I found out it was a Pike County Murder trial. Interesting to learn about what is going on when I’m out on the road.

Georgetown Ohio Post Office

Georgetown OH Post Office 45121
Georgetown OH Post Office 45121

ADDRESS: 201 East Grant Avenue, Georgetown, Ohio 45121
ARTIST: Richard Zoellner
TITLE: Tobacco Harvest
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (Mural)
STATUS: The Georgetown post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1936

I arrived in Georgetown late in the day. The sun had already set but I was able to get a few good photos of the exterior of the building. Turns out Georgetown is also the boy hood home of Ulysses Grant, our 18th president.

I walked about the block in the downtown area and stopped to read the plaque outside of the house he grew up in. It was late and after hours so I never went inside, but it was kind of nice to see this little bit of history. Bonus the post office is on the same street and just a short walk away.

There are also some nice historical photos decorating the lobby of the post office.
