STATUS: The Caldwell post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.

I’m delighted to have had wonderful weather the first few days of my October 2022 road trip. The blue skies, cooler temperatures and low traffic made it perfect for photographing the Caldwell, Ohio post office building.

The mural for this one hangs in the retail section of the lobby. Since I was here on a Sunday, I had to photograph it through the glass wall. I think they turned out pretty good, but most likely, I’ll be back for better images. For now here is what you get.

STATUS: The Barnesville post office is still an active, operating facility. However, the mural has been reported missing, lost or destroyed. It previously resided in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door. The current mural which resides in its places was a replacement replica created by a local artist. Barnesville was another goal during my recent October 2022 road trip. I was anxious for this visit as it was one of the missing, lost or destroyed murals. You can imagine my surprise when I observed a mural in the lobby.

Kudos to the Burnsville community in coming together to create a replacement mural. The building is well maintained and the mural looks good. The newspaper clippings gives you the full story. Very nice!

YEAR: 1940

My goal for the road trip I took in October of 2022 was to specifically visit this one. It was the winner in the 1939 48 Sate mural competition.

I had a great trip, it was very early in the morning when I made it here. The sun was just coming up. The heavy shadow you see just below the building is the bridge behind me from where I was photographing.

Sadly, the lobby was closed on the weekend when I made my initial stop. I returned three days later during business hours to get the mural images. This visit took me to 23 post offices.

Interesting this is the third entry I have recorded here on Post Office Fans, a popular stop.
