MEDIUM: Wood (relief / carving)
STATUS: The postal service vacated the original building which housed a wood relief. The current Miamisburg post office is an active, operating facility, and the wood relief can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the retail section of the lobby and is best viewed during business hours.
YEAR: 1942

I don’t know why, but sometimes its the little things I notice that make me smile. Take for instance the port window (circular window). It makes me ask, why did the architect what a circular window? Anyway, just thought I’d point that one out. Why, you ask? because I’m weird that way.

It is also a delight to see that someone took the time to build out all the displays in the lobby. There are at least four different cases with artifacts and historical items. Fun to see this mini museum in Miamisburg.

STATUS: The New Concord post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940

Another perfect photograph in New Concord, Ohio during my October 2022 road trip. What you don’t see is the gas station across the street. It was quit busy and I had a small audience watching me as I tried to film the show video clips I take for the front of the buildings. Fun times!

Eaton Ohio Post Office

STATUS: The Eaton post office is still an active, operating facility, and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1936

As I was visiting this building a man observed me trying to crawl into the bushes to get a photograph of the cornerstone. However, this man did not know what I was doing or why I was there.

Once we started chatting, I learned that he is the postmaster for this building. I politely explained what I was doing and that I wanted a clear photo of the cornerstone. He said to come back in three or four weeks as he was going to have the bushes taken out. Dang! I’m on my road trip today and may not get a chance soon to revisit. But at least I know the bushes will be gone the next time I do visit.
