Orange Virginia Post Office – Guest

March 15, 2022 By Roger

Orange VA
Orange VA

ADDRESS: 129 W Main St, Orange, VA 22960
ARTIST: Arnold Friedman
TITLE: Upland Pastures
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Orange post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. The mural resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1937

From my “archive”…I stopped in Orange, VA for lunch on August 1, 2019 during a vacation in northern Virginia and nearby Shenandoah NP. Very lovely small town with a US Post Office built during the New Deal years. The nearby Orange County Visitors Center is housed in the restored train station. Even before the Civil War, Orange was a major railroad hub. The Orange and Alexandria Railroad went through Orange. The town was a strategic location during the Civil War; Gen. Lee maintained his headquarters in Orange from March 1862 to May 1864.
