Saint Louis Missouri Main Post Office – Part 10

ADDRESS: 1720 Market Street, Saint Louis, Missouri, 61355
TITLE: The River
ARTIST: Edward Millman
MEDIUM: (mural)
STATUS: The mural resides on the wall in the lobby.
YEAR: 1942

Welcome to part 10 of our 10 part series featuring the Saint Louis post office. For the past 9 days we have been showcasing the murals inside the main post office building on Market St. Since there are over 9 murals I’ve decided to highlight them each individually.  Today’s mural is titled “The River” and was done by Edward Millman.

This mural portrays a typical group of river men who traveled the Missouri River on flatboats when river traffic was at its height. While the cargo was being loaded you could hear their music all along the levees.

This concludes our 10 part series featuring the murals of the Saint Louis, Missouri main post office. For the past week we have featured each mural residing inside this mammoth building. In addition to the 9 large panels in the lobby there are also two smaller but very large murals at the east and west entrance of the building.  I’ve included them here as part of the final report of what is truly one of the best post offices I have visited.

Thanks for following along I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. And as always, if you have your own story about this post office I’d love to hear from you. Please comment and share below.
