Guest Post – Roger

Another guest post from Roger. This one is from Struthers, Ohio. Very nice building with a plaster cast above the postmasters door.

One of the reason I love visiting old post offices is for the “little” things that you discover. Struthers is a perfect example, which has interesting artifacts and stuff posted in the old bulletin boards.

What is most interesting to me is the newspaper article when the building was dedicated. I’m not so sure the post office would have such a large turn out in today’s world, so this is a neat thing to see.

Thanks for sharing Roger,

Special thanks to Roger for sending in our first post office image for New York.

Guest Post – Roger

As most of you know I live in the midwest, so anytime I can see post offices from the east coast or west coast is a special treat. Roger has been kind enough to send us some great post offices which we’ll be sharing with you in the coming weeks.

A note from Roger:

David,

Took this phone on Oct. 29, 2016

Thanks Roger for the phone and for sending us our FIRST post office from New York.

Do you have your own photos of post offices you’d like to see here? Please contact us to contribute or our site.

Thanks Roger

Former Heber Springs Arkansas Post Office

August 24, 2018 By David W. Gates Jr.

Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543
Heber Springs Former Post Office 72543

ADDRESS: 102 E Main St., Heber Springs, Arkansas, 72543
ARTIST: H. Louis Freund
TITLE: From Tiber to Agriculture
MEDIUM: Mural
STATUS: No longer a post office, this building is the local historical center. The mural resides in what was the original lobby above the former postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

I had a wonderful time visiting and photographing this one. It was a weekday and I was initially the only visitor so the volunteers had ample time to share their impressive collection in their small museum.

You name escapes me now that it’s 3 months later. But I really enjoyed our conversation and you showing me around. Bonus that we also took a visit to the basement of this old building.

Sort of a behind the scene. I love these old buildings and jump at any chance that someone is able to share it with me.

David W. Gates Jr.
