Shelbyville Tennessee Post Office

ADDRESS: 600 N. Main St., Shelbyville, Tennessee 37160

This one has a lot of old artifacts. I was surprised to find so much. But its times like this that I was grateful, I visited during normal business hours and that the items were on display. Oh and don’t forget about the dedication plaque hidden behind the evergreen bushes in front of the building. A lucky find, I’m glad I checked.

Some interesting artifacts, I found was an old postal carriers hat, old framed photographs of the old building and old letters and awards. Some nice items I have to say. I’d like to say thank you to the person or people who took the time to make sure these were put o display for the public. What a real treat. I often ask myself how many locals realize what a neat thing it is to have a post office with so much history and charm? Not everyone is as luck as the residents of Shelbyville. From Chicago, Thank you.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Former Shelbyville Tennessee Post Office

Now the Argie Cooper Public Library, the former Shelbyville post office is nice impressive building. Although I’m disappointed to see the engraving removed from the facia of the building at least its still standing and open for the public. This old solid old building. I love the pillars in front.

During my visit I was able to do some quick research since it was the library. I went directly to the genealogy department and found a local book. As you can see the post office was converted to the library way back in 1966. Not bad for doing some quick research. But at lease I was able to confirm the history and facts around the status of this building.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Kenton Tennessee Post Office

July 16, 2013 By David W. Gates Jr.

Kenton TN Post Office 38233

ADDRESS: 200 E. Carroll St., Kenton, Tennessee 38233

Welcome to Kenton Tennessee. Today’s featured post office of the day. You may notice my post being much shorter these days. It’s summer in Chicago-land, and I don’t much feel like sitting in side all the time. In my efforts to keep up my a picture every day I’ve had to cut down on the written portion of my post.

Feel free to add to this if you know something more about the Kenton Post Office. Thank you very much
