Mount Washington New Hampshire Post Office

May 13, 2013 By David W. Gates Jr.

ADDRESS: Mount Washington Base Station, 3168 Base Station Rd., Mount Washington, NH 03589

You want a story, I’ll tell you a story. I walked to this post office. Not once but TWICE. Yes you read that correctly. I’ve hiked up this old mountain two times and both times I ended up taking pictures of the post office. I guess I just can’t get enough walking up big mountains.

Why would someone do this. Well, once upon a time I used to work in an office building with a few good friends. One year in August of 2003 we decided to traverse the presidential range in the White Mountains. My friends Joe put together the itinerary and another co-worker of ours signed on for this epic journey of hiking 42 miles which included hiking over Mount Washington. So we walked, and all three of us hiked up Mount Washington. Thanks Joe for putting together a great trip and taking my picture.

The second time I visited Mount Washington was in 2007 while hiking the Appalachian Trail.  Yes, I walked up this old mountain again for the second time in my life. I guess I didn’t get enough punishment the first time. I was with a group of AT hikers and we all posed for a group photo at the Mt Washington summit sign. It was windy but clear, so the views were nice. And that my folks is one for the record books. I’ve had repeated visits to a few post offices since starting this little web site, but I have to say my Mt. Washington visit is by far my most rewarding from a travel perspective.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Hanover New Hampshire Post Office

ADDRESS: 50 S. Main St., Hanover, New Hampshire 03755

Another quick stop during my 2007 hiking adventure. I remember this being a quick couple of photos. I had to have been with someone or asked someone to take my photo. I know this because the bottom photo has me in my hiking attire. Did you take my picture? Was I with you in 2007 walking through Hanover? I don’t remember.

Thanks,

David W. Gates Jr.

Upper Sandusky Ohio Post Office

May 11, 2013 By David W. Gates Jr.

Upper Sandusky OH Post Office 43351
Upper Sandusky OH Post Office 43351

ADDRESS: 122 West Wyandot Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351
ARTIST: Alois Fabry
TITLE: The Mail
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Upper Sandusky post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. The mural resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1937

Several months ago I feature about 45 or so post offices from Ohio. The Upper Sandusky was one I took a bunch of picture of. I’m guessing this was why I never posted it a few months back. These are always my favorite and I like to enjoy working with the photos. I reminisce about my visit and admire the artwork again on my computer. I took 15 photos of this building and the inside. It’s a lot of material so enjoy the collection.

What are your impressions of this mural? Please comment below.

Thanks,
