TITLE: Corn Harvest
ARTIST: Joseph P. Vorst
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Vandalia post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the public. The mural resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939

The Vandalia post office also has wonderful limestone sculptures of a plane, train and ship on the front facade of the building. What is your story of the Vandalia Missouri Post Office? What can you tell me about the artists or subject?

I felt out-of-place when I visited Old Monroe. It just seem liked one of those small industrial towns where not much was going on. I was happy to get this photo and glad I visited. I like the way the flag just sort of hangs out from the building. If you don’t have a flag pole you improvise. Excellent I said to myself as I stood outside admiring this small town building.

Olivette Missouri Post Office

ADDRESS: 99621 Olive Blvd., Saint Louis, Missouri 63132

I found Saint Louis post offices locations to be challenging. It was hard to tell what post offices were part of Saint Louis and which were their own cities. Take for instance Olivette. When I returned home and tried to find the address, it came back as Saint Louis, MO. However, the sign on the building clearly shows Olivette.

Could this be one of those situation we found in Maryland Heights? Once can only wonder. Do you know? Can you shed some light on this?
