Another stop along the Pacific Crest Trail. The Idyllwild post office is another popular stop for thru-hikers. It just happens to be a good spot to get rides around town. I’m just saying.

It was nice to see the display below. Although the Idyllwild post office does not have a mural or other art, its nice to get these little surprises.

Downieville California Post Office

During my Pacific Crest Trail hike in 2010 my mother and aunt visited in late July. I ended up taking a few days off and we visited a bunch of little towns and did a bunch of tourist things like boutique shops and historical spots.

Downieville was on town we passed through and since the post office was right downtown I had to stop and get a picture.

Chester California Post Office

Chester California is an important stop for any Pacific Crest Trail Thru-hiker. It represents about the half way approximately 1,313 miles of the length of the trail. I of course had to stop at the post office to get a picture of the building. Although I did not have a mail drop to this one I still wanted to visit and get a picture of the building.

The pictures below are significant for a couple of reasons. The first thing you may notice is I’m wearing my backpack.  Since I did not have my own transportation while in town I ended up carrying my backpack everywhere I went while in town. I was not planning on spending the night in Chester so I did not have a place to stash my pack while I was doing chores. So I carried my pack with me to the post office.

As I was sitting there a nice lady noticed I was trying to take my own picture. She offer to take it for me and I gladly accepted her offer. The self-portrait of me below is because of the kindness of this complete stranger. So there you go folks. This is another reason hiking and traveling is to enjoyable to me. Meeting people such as this nice lady is a classic example. Chester is also home to an extremely generous trail angel.
