The Wheeling Post Office is a strange combination of old and new. The building itself appears to be older however, the signage is newer. The USPS logos are newer and are the signature red, white and blue eagle.

The lobby was not open so I was not able to confirm if there is a dedication plaque. I’m on a quest to visit several post offices today so that’s about all I have to report for this one. Maybe someday I’ll visit during operating hours.

Not much to say about this one. It’s one of my least favorite of all post office locations. This one is located in your typical strip mall. Nothing exciting to see here, no dedication plaque, no art, no display cases, no paintings, nothing more than just your retail USPS store. There is not even a sign on the window telling visitors what city this is. huh! oh well. This is the Rolling Meadows Post Office folks hope you like it.

Some times that’s just want you find when visiting post offices. I was disappointed that cars were in front of the entrance. I tried my best to get un-obstructed photos of the front entrance. But since there is a bagel shop next door and these customers appeared to park in front, this was a difficult task.

TITLE: Winter Landscapes
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The mural is still present in the post office. It is accessible to members of the public interested in viewing it. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1940

My girlfriend and I decided to take a road trip to Lake Geneva today. We heard there was a walking trail around the lake and wanted to look into. We found the visitors center and a friendly staff person full of local information.

After our brief walk along the lake we headed over to the post office. I was excited to see the mural on the wall. The lobby was open but the sales counter area was locked. I ended up taking pictures through the glass.

The lobby area also had a postage stamp looking artwork on display. The descriptive plaque list it created by “Junior American Citizens” it’s also dated 2002.

Another plaque list the building expansion in 1987 by Magill Construction Co.

The stamped granite block on the exterior of building list the following. The building’s corner-stone is stamped 1939.
