I distinctly remember the lady who owns the pickup truck in this picture. I had to stand there a minute or two while people were coming and going. She laughed at me as I walked over to the front of the building. I remember he comment something like “Is this the best souvenir you could find”. Yes, funny things happen when you start taking pictures of yourself in front of post offices.

One from the archives! And the stories and looks I get continue to this day. Comments like this make my job so much more fun.

Dolton Illinois Post Office

This was the fourth post Office I visited today. Clear skies and nice lighting I was able to get a few good pictures. The Dolton post office is unique in its own way but nothing that gave me that wow! factor.

It also appears there are plaques on the inside of the lobby. Since the glass on the front of the building was tinted and the plaques were located towards the ceiling I was not able to get a good look at them.

I’m still hoping for another post office to have the lobby open so I just took a few quick pictures and headed on to the next one.

Riverdale Illinois Post Office

Since I’ve changed my availability with my employer, I no longer work on Sunday. This is the one day of the week I can count on visiting at least one post office. So that is exactly what we did today. My research uncovered a list of possible closures. So today I randomly choose the post office in Riverdale Illinois.

One reason I choose Riverdale is that I was hoping it would be an older post office with unique features. Upon arriving I was disappointed as the newer signs immediately gave away that it was a newer building. Since there were no cars in the parking lot or in front of the building I was excited to get good pictures of the building. The lobby was locked so I was not able to check if there was a dedication plaque.

Since we had made the drive I decided to target the surrounding post offices. All total I visited 6 today.
